Paracanthurus hepatus – Blue Tang (Yellow Belly)
Product Description
The Yellow Belly Blue Tang (Paracanthurus hepatus) is a striking color variant of the popular Blue Tang. It features the iconic deep blue body with a bold black pattern and bright yellow tail, combined with a distinctive yellow coloration on the belly that gives this variant its name.
Native to the Indo-Pacific region, this active surgeonfish inhabits coral reef slopes and lagoons where it spends most of its time swimming in open water. In the aquarium it is an energetic and eye-catching species that works well as a centerpiece fish in larger marine aquariums.
The species is generally reef safe and compatible with many peaceful reef fish. Like other surgeonfish, it has a sharp defensive spine near the base of the tail, which should be considered when handling or netting the fish.
