Aquarium requirements

• Aquascape: Caves and overhangs for bolt-holes; open area for hovering.

• Water: pH 8.1–8.4, salinity 1.025–1.026, temp 24–26 °C (75–79 °F), NH3/NO2 0, NO3 <20 ppm.

• Flow: Low–moderate with calm zones.

• Lighting: Moderate; avoid sudden changes.

Diet

• Frequency: 1–2× daily, small portions.

• Foods: Enriched mysis and brine shrimp, finely chopped marine meats, small marine pellets; copepods when available.

Behavior and compatibility

• Keeping: Best singly or as a true bonded pair. Groups fight in small tanks.

• Tankmates: Peaceful species only. Avoid boisterous wrasses, dottybacks, large hawkfish, and aggressive clowns.

• Territory: Will guard a burrow; provide multiple retreats.

Acclimation and care

• Acclimate: Slow drip 30–45 min; dim lights.

• Stress control: Tight lid, cover all gaps around plumbing and cables.

• Notes: May hide and skip meals until settled; target-feed near its retreat if needed.
