Orchid Dottyback (Pseudochromis fridmani)

The Orchid Dottyback is a beautiful and hardy reef fish known for its vivid purple coloration and active personality. Compared to many other dottyback species, it is relatively peaceful and well suited for reef aquariums when kept with compatible tank mates.

This species spends much of its time exploring rockwork and small caves. It is naturally territorial but usually behaves well in community aquariums if given sufficient space and hiding places.

Care Notes

Orchid Dottybacks appreciate aquariums with plenty of rock structures where they can establish small territories. They are active hunters and will naturally search for small crustaceans within the rockwork.

They adapt well to aquarium foods and readily accept frozen foods such as mysis, brine shrimp and finely chopped seafood. High-quality marine pellets can also be part of their diet.

Captive-bred individuals are widely available and often adapt especially well to aquarium life, making them an excellent choice for reef aquariums.
