Parachaetodon ocellatus (Sixspined Butterflyfish) is an attractive and relatively uncommon butterflyfish, often compared to the popular Chelmon rostratus (Copperband Butterflyfish). To the eye, it resembles a C. rostratus but with the diamond-shaped body of a Monodactylus. Its base colour is white with five vertical golden-yellow to brownish bands, along with a distinctive black spot on the fourth bar in the dorsal fin and another near the caudal fin base. These markings vary slightly between individuals.

Reaching up to about 15 cm in length, this species is best suited for marine aquariums of at least 600 liters. In the wild, they are usually found in schools over deep, muddy bottoms, though juveniles can also be seen in shallow lagoons among seagrass beds. In captivity, they are generally peaceful toward other fish, though they may harass similarly shaped species. They are best kept singly, unless a proven pair or a sufficiently large aquarium allows for a group.

Diet-wise, P. ocellatus is likely an omnivore, feeding on algae, sponges, small invertebrates such as crustaceans and worms, and occasionally corals. In aquariums, they are known to consume Aiptasia anemones and usually leave corals alone, though large-polyp stony (LPS) corals may be at some risk. Acclimating them to prepared foods can be challenging, as they are naturally finicky eaters, but once they accept substitute diets they tend to be hardy. Offering a varied mix of meaty foods and algae-based options will help them thrive in a healthy reef tank.
