The Giant Trochus snail is a true heavyweight in the clean-up crew, with adults reaching 10–12 cm in shell length. Its conical, thick shell shows wrinkled ridges and dotted patterns, often striped in brown, red, or purple tones over a whitish or yellow base. The inside shines glossy white, making the empty shell just as striking as the living animal.

Unlike smaller trochus species, these giants are not suited for nano aquariums. They need space to roam and graze, and their bulk makes them clumsy in tight environments. In larger reef tanks, however, they are powerful algae grazers and hardy, long-lived invertebrates.

Care Guide

Tank Size: Minimum 300–400 L. Best in medium to very large aquariums with lots of grazing surfaces.

Diet: Feeds on film algae, diatoms, and detritus. Supplement with dried seaweed (nori) or sinking herbivore pellets if algae growth is low.

Behavior: Peaceful, reef-safe. Can right itself if overturned. May bulldoze loose frags due to size.

Placement: Best in stable reef tanks with good rockwork and flow. Avoid small, fragile setups.
