UV Sterilizers (22)
A UV sterilizer can help combat bacterial and algae problems such as cloudy water, cyanobacteria and dinoflagellates. It can also reduce the spread of harmful algae in an aquarium. A sterilizer can only destroy microorganisms that are floating freely in the water, so it will not eliminate algae problems that are attached to rocks or sand. Against parasites, a UV sterilizer can reduce their number by preventing them from multiplying, but it will not eliminate parasites that have already infected the fish.
The effectiveness of a UV sterilizer depends on proper installation and flow rate control. Bacteria and algae control requires a faster flow rate, while parasites control requires a slower flow rate, which increases exposure time and increases sterilization efficiency.
