Acanthurus polyzona, commonly known as the Black-barred surgeonfish, is a small schooling tang. It looks very similar to the more commonly known A. triostegus but A. polyzona has 9 stripes (and some spots on his face) compared to only 6 stripes in A. triostegus. Although not a very colourful fish, it does stand out in a reef tank due to its metallic silver body. And when multiple polyzona together graze your tank it's very peaceful to watch.

The combination with other tangs can give problems so be careful with this, but multiple polyzona introduced at the same time usually works well.

Like other tangs, it will eat meaty foods, but it's important it can graze on algae/seaweed the entire day to ensure it will stay healthy. So feed flakes/pellets multiple times a day and make sure there is always seaweed available.
