The Blue Tang is one of the most iconic reef fish, known for its vivid blue body and contrasting black pattern with a bright yellow tail. An active open-water swimmer, it requires substantial space and strong water movement.
• Constant swimmer – needs open space
• Can be territorial toward other tangs
• Generally peaceful with non-similar species
• May show stress if kept in undersized aquariums
Best kept as a single specimen unless housed in very large systems.
• Large, mature aquarium
• Strong water circulation
• Excellent filtration and stable parameters
• Plenty of swimming space with structured rockwork
Sensitive to poor water quality and prone to marine ich if stressed.
Primarily herbivorous:
• Marine algae and nori
• Spirulina-based foods
• High-quality pellets
• Occasional frozen foods
Frequent feeding helps maintain immune health and coloration.
A stunning but demanding species suited for experienced reef aquarists with large systems. Not recommended for small aquariums despite its popularity.
An impressive centerpiece fish when kept in proper conditions.
