Duncanopsammia axifuga – Duncan Coral

Duncanopsammia axifuga, known among hobbyists as Duncan Coral, is a popular LPS coral in reef aquariums. It forms branching calcareous skeletons with large and distinctly separated polyps developing at their ends. The polyps somewhat resemble an anemone: there is a mouth in the center surrounded by several long tentacles that open during the day.

In a reef aquarium, Duncan coral is generally a hardy and easily adaptable species. It thrives in moderate lighting and gentle to medium flow, where the polyps can move naturally. In good conditions, the polyps expand considerably, and the coral grows new branches, making it a spectacular growth over time.

Duncanopsammia typically appears in various shades of green, but some individuals may have brownish, turquoise, or slightly yellowish hues. The center of the polyp and the tentacles can fluoresce strongly under blue aquarium lighting.
