A striking member of the starfish family, Nardoa novaecaledoniae is known for its chunky arms and often mottled, patterned coloration. Native to the Indo-Pacific, particularly around New Caledonia, this sea star adds a wild, natural Reef look but requires careful consideration before introduction.

Appearance: Thick, knobby arms with variable coloration ranging from browns and tans to bluish or mottled tones. Typically five-armed, although the arms are stubbier compared to other starfishes.
Adult size: Can reach 20–25 cm across.
Temperament: Non-aggressive but opportunistic. Like many sea stars, it may snack on sessile invertebrates if underfed.

Tank requirements: Large, mature Reef system (minimum 300 L). Needs stable salinity and pristine water conditions; intolerant of rapid parameter swings. Provide plenty of live rock and biofilm surfaces.
Diet: Omnivorous scavenger. Will graze on detritus, biofilm, and occasionally soft corals or sponges. Supplement with meaty frozen foods or specialized starfish diets.

Care level: Advanced. Sensitive to acclimation and water quality. Long-term survival depends heavily on tank maturity and consistent feeding.
