Ricordea florida

Ricordea florida is a colorful disc anemone with a surface covered in small bubble-like protrusions. Its coloration varies depending on the individual, and a single animal can display several different shades.

The species belongs to the order Corallimorpharia. In English, Ricordea is often referred to as mushroom coral, but it is not a true coral but a disc anemone.

This strain is aquacultured at Korallifarmi. Ricordea florida is a hardy and relatively easy-to-care-for species, suitable even for hobbyists acquiring their first corals and other sessile reef animals.

Features

  • Striking and variable coloration
  • Bubble-like surface typical of Ricordea
  • Aquacultured at Korallifarmi
  • Hardy and easy-to-care-for disc anemone
  • Typically reproduces by division

Care Instructions

  • Lighting: moderate to strong. Around 50–150 PAR serves as a good starting point, and the individual can also be acclimated to stronger lighting.
  • Flow: low to moderate. Too strong a flow can prevent the disc anemone from opening properly or detach it from its substrate.
  • Temperature: 24–26 °C
  • Salinity: approximately 34–35 ppt
  • Feeding: obtains a large part of its energy from light through symbiotic algae, but benefits from small protein-rich foods such as mysis or other finely ground marine aquarium-appropriate foods.
  • Placement: on a stable rock in an area where the flow does not hit the animal too strongly.
